Playa Tortuga
Directly in front of our hotel is Playa Tortuga. As its name suggests, Playa Tortuga is turtle nesting beach. Primarily the Olive Ridley turtle buries its eggs here (although it is possible that other species occasionally arrive). Thanks to the efforts of the Reserva Playa Tortuga, the beach was officially declared a nesting beach in 2014.
Playa Tortuga is also the nesting area for numerous pairs of scarlet macaws. You can often see them in the trees and flying around the beach and you can hear them squawking from miles away.
